Shoreline Entertainment Picks Up Scotland's First Animated Feature Film
(Century City, CA - October 2, 2012) - Shoreline Entertainment has picked up world sales rights to Scotland's first CGI-animated feature film Sir Billi, starring Sean Connery in his first-ever animated voice-over role.
Sascha and Tessa Hartmann, the husband-and-wife creative team behind the film, concluded the deal with Sam Eigen and Melody Djavadi of Shoreline at the recent San Sebastián Film Festival. (Sascha) Hartmann directed the movie from a screenplay written by his wife, from an original story they developed together. John Fraser produced the film, with Connery serving as executive producer.
Sir Billi is a roller-coaster family adventure about a race to save the last beaver in Scotland, led by Sir Billi (Sean Connery) - a vet by profession, skateboarder by passion, and grandfather by love; and on a grander scale, known to all as The Guardian of the Highlands!
Developed from an original short story concept to an all-action feature-length CGI adventure set in the Scottish highlands, the project has a wealth of creative talent attached, including Academy Award-nominated Scottish composer Patrick Doyle, who created the film's original music. Doyle's recent scores include Rise of the Planet of the Apes, Thor, Igor, and Nim's Island. It was Doyle's Oscar-nominated work on Sense and Sensibility (1995), Hamlet (1996) and Saturn Award-nominated Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire (1996) that attracted the Hartmanns to approach fellow Scot Patrick in the first place.
British singing legend Shirley Bassey performs the title track, "Guardian of the Highlands," composed and produced by the film's director, Sascha Hartmann. Best known for recording the theme songs to the James Bond films Goldfinger, Diamonds Are Forever and Moonraker, Bassey teamed up with Sean Connery for the first time since the 1964 Goldfinger movie.
"This film has a highly distinctive and original look about it, very different from the current animated fare in the market place," says Shoreline Entertainment's CEO, Morris Ruskin. "It's a real heart-warming and hilarious action-packed family movie that will keep you at the edge of your seat with the most beautiful and unrivaled landscapes, breathtaking Scottish scenery, and hidden highland secrets. It's quite the adventure!"
"This film has been a true labor of love, and something that our entire team is incredibly proud of," says (Tessa) Hartmann. "We are delighted to have signed with Shoreline Entertainment, whose principals are as passionate about Sir Billi as we are. We've always said the movie was born in Scotland, but created for the world. Shoreline will help us realize that dream!"
